Remembrance Day – Canada

Like you Americans, we Canadians also recognize a special day of the year to honor those who help/helped make our quality of life, and freedom possible. Today is November 11th, Remembrance Day. On this day, and the days leading up to it we wear Poppies in observance of the members of the armed forces who were killed during war.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Hello Heather,
I’m writing to request permission to include your stunning photograph of Flanders Fields in the Remembrance Day slide show I am preparing for my school. Was it actually taken at Flanders Fields? Would you mind if I used it? Your name will of course included.
Thanks
Karen
